Frequently Asked Questions

How much do granite countertops cost in Kenya?
Granite countertops cost KES 4,000–8,000 per square metre, fabricated and installed (2026). Locally-quarried Kenyan granite starts from about KES 2,800/sqm; imported varieties sit at the upper end. Marble runs KES 6,000–15,000/sqm and quartz KES 7,000–14,000/sqm — all including templating, fabrication, and installation.
Which is better for a kitchen — granite, marble, or quartz?
Granite is the hardest and most heat-resistant, and the only option safe outdoors. Quartz is non-porous and virtually maintenance-free. Marble has the most luxurious veining but is softer and best for lower-traffic surfaces. For busy Kenyan kitchens, granite offers the best balance of durability, heat resistance, and value.
Do granite countertops need sealing, and how often?
Granite is sealed on installation and should be re-sealed every 1–3 years — a quick, low-cost step that keeps it stain-resistant. Quartz never needs sealing; marble needs it more often (every 6–12 months). Quick test: drop water on the granite — if it soaks in and darkens the stone, it is time to re-seal.
How long do granite countertops last?
With simple daily care, granite countertops last 30–50+ years, and quartz up to 50 years. Natural stone typically outlives the kitchen it is installed in, which makes it a one-time investment rather than a recurring cost.
Can you put hot pans directly on granite or quartz?
Granite is formed under extreme heat and comfortably handles hot pans (a trivet is still good practice). Quartz is more heat-sensitive — its resin binder can scorch above roughly 150°C — so always use a trivet or board on quartz.
Does granite or marble stain easily?
Sealed granite resists staining well — just wipe spills reasonably promptly and re-seal every 1–3 years. Quartz is non-porous and the most stain-resistant. Marble is the most stain-prone (especially to acids like lemon or wine) and needs spills cleaned quickly.
How thick should a kitchen countertop be?
2cm is standard for kitchen worktops; 3cm is used for islands, breakfast bars, outdoor counters, and heavy-use surfaces. We recommend the best thickness and edge profile for your layout during on-site templating.
