Quartz Surfaces โ€” Frequently Asked Questions

Does quartz need sealing?
No. Engineered quartz is non-porous (93 percent crushed quartz bound with 7 percent resin), so it never needs sealing. You simply wipe it with mild soap and water, and it keeps lifetime stain resistance.
Is quartz better than granite?
Quartz is non-porous, maintenance-free, and offers consistent colour with no sealing, which makes it ideal for modern, low-maintenance kitchens. Granite is harder, more heat-resistant, and usable outdoors. Neither is universally better โ€” quartz wins on convenience, granite on heat and outdoor durability.
What is the difference between quartz and granite?
Granite is 100 percent natural stone cut from quarried slabs, so each piece is unique and it can be used outdoors. Quartz is engineered from 93 percent crushed quartz and 7 percent resin, giving consistent colour, a non-porous surface, and zero sealing โ€” but it is indoor-only.
Can quartz be used outdoors in Kenya?
No. Direct sunlight degrades the resin in engineered quartz and can cause fading and warping, so quartz should be kept to indoor applications. For outdoor surfaces, choose granite instead.
Is quartz heat resistant?
Quartz tolerates heat up to about 150 degrees Celsius, but sustained or direct heat can damage the resin binder. Always use a trivet or hot pad under hot pans and pots.
